WHO Chief Warns of War Crimes as Starvation in Gaza Worsens

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has issued a grave warning, stating that the starvation of civilians is being used as a method of war in Gaza—a crime that must not be tolerated.

According to the UN health agency, more than 370 people have died from malnutrition since the conflict began. Over 300 of those deaths occurred in just the last two months alone. The lack of clean water, food, and safe living conditions has led to a collapse in people’s immune systems, making them vulnerable to disease. The health agency has documented a significant increase in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a serious condition, with 11 deaths in the past month.

Tedros described the situation as a preventable, “man-made disaster,” highlighting that life-saving food is sitting on trucks just a short distance away from a starving population. He emphasized that this crisis will not make Israel safer or lead to the release of hostages.

While WHO is providing support through medical evacuations, the need for care remains immense, with more than 15,000 patients still awaiting urgent treatment. Sadly, over 700 people have died while waiting for these medical transfers.

He concluded by calling on Israel to end the war and urged its allies to use their influence to bring the conflict to a halt.
