France has experienced a 75% rise in Islamophobic incidents during the first five months of 2025, according to data from the Interior Ministry. Between January and May, authorities recorded 145 anti-Muslim acts, compared to 83 in the same period last year.
Notably, attacks targeting individuals have surged by 209%, now constituting the majority of reported cases. This increase follows a series of violent events, including a deadly stabbing inside a mosque in southern France in April.
With the largest Muslim population in Western Europe—approximately 9% of the total—France has witnessed growing protests against racism and Islamophobia. In response, rights organizations and community leaders are calling on the government to implement stronger measures to combat anti-Muslim violence and hate speech.
