Following the fatal stabbing of Aboubakar Cisse in La Grand-Combe on April 25, allegedly by an attacker shouting anti-Muslim insults, protests against growing Islamophobia swept across France on Sunday.
Demonstrations occurred in major cities including Paris, Marseille, and Lyon, with participants expressing outrage over the attack and the broader climate of Islamophobia in French media and politics. In Paris, protesters marched from Bastille to Nation Square, criticizing Interior Minister Retailleau’s policies and displaying signs and chanting slogans such as “Islamophobia kills” and “Stop Islamophobia.” Many protesters also showed solidarity with Palestine through flags and keffiyehs as they called for justice for Cisse.
